In the early hours of Europe Day, Plataforma per la Llengua projected a protest mapping show on to the facade of La Pedrera, opposite the headquarters of the European Commission in Barcelona, to demand official status for Catalan in the European Union. The organisation's mapping showed the slogan "'Units en la diversitat' sense el català és blabla" ("'United in diversity' without Catalan is just talk"), in direct criticism of the lack of coherence between the EU slogan and the exclusion of the Catalan language from official status.
The action is part of the pressure campaign the organisation has been carrying out since 2023, just before Spain took on the rotating presidency of the EU Council. Then, Plataforma per la Llengua launched an offensive to get the Spanish government to make the formal request for official status for Catalan effective. This demand was finally made in the context of the negotiations for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez as Spanish Prime Minister.

With the proposal officially registered, the organisation has continued working to achieve unanimous support from Member States - an essential requirement for approval. During the Spanish presidency, Plataforma per la Llengua therefore launched the international Say Yes campaign, directly aimed at European governments, to ask them to accept official status for Catalan in the EU: a decision that requires unanimity.
The initiative aims to break the institutional impasse and make European leaders see the importance of recognising the situation of the Catalan language within the common European project. The question of official status for Catalan remains unresolved on the EU Council. Although no agreement has been reached, several Council presidencies have addressed the issue during their mandates, and the current Polish presidency has expressed its willingness to resume the debate.
Plataforma per la Llengua has repeated that "there are no legal or technical excuses to block official status" and has appealed to the Spanish government to clear the way for the acceptance of a historical demand widely supported by the Catalan public.
