Plataforma per la Llengua has denounced this morning the violation of fundamental rights that Catalans are suffering these days on the part of the Spanish government. In a in a letter addressed to the Vice President European Commission and responsible for fundamental rights in the European Union Mr. Frans Timmermans, the president of Plataforma per la Llengua, Mr. Òscar Escuder, explains some of the events that have taken place recently in Catalonia, such as the confiscation of posters of our campaign "A favorable state", as well as those of other organizations that support the referendum called for this Sunday; the closure of both official and private websites reporting on the referendum; the persecution of politicians; and the harassment of journalists by the militarized police, the Attorney General and the Spanish government. These facts constitute an attack on fundamental rights such as freedom of expression and freedom of information.
Plataforma per la Llengua considers this situation to be unacceptable in the framework of the European Union and calls on the European Commission to act against the violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens of Catalonia.
